Simpler, Smarter, Smoother: Updates to the DataHub Business Glossary

Whether it is for data mapping or data governance, the Business Glossary is one of DataHub’s foundational features, and not surprisingly, a favorite among our users. And that’s why we’re excited to share some exciting UI updates that make this feature simpler and quicker to use.

But first, a quick rundown of the feature.

The DataHub Business Glossary

A Business Glossary is used to create a shared and controlled language for business content and technical data. It minimizes ambiguity and ensures consistency to ensure organizations speak the same language while dealing with their data.

DataHub’s Business Glossary ensures that data elements are logically classified in the business context so teams understand how different terms relate to one another.

Simpler, smarter, smoother: 3 ways our new and improved UI simplifies the Business Glossary feature

Given how important and frequently used the Business Glossary is, we wanted to make sure that it was set up to maximize usability and flexibility for you. Here’s how our latest updates do that.

1. Improved navigation and search: View and navigate the structure of your glossary

Now, you can go straight to your Glossary Homepage to view the structure and hierarchy of your glossary.

With the browser, you’ll always know where you are, down to the last node– both in your browser and your glossary path.

2. Add, edit, move, or delete Glossary Terms/Group — in less than three clicks

Add: Add a new Term or Term Group from anywhere within the Glossary; the Parent Term Group is auto-populated based on where you are in the browse path, and you can easily change it if/as needed.

Edit: Edit terms in a single click.

Move or Delete: Organize your Glossary with ease by moving or deleting Terms as your use cases evolve.

P.S: For now, you can only delete terms without any child entities. We’re working on a cascading delete feature that will help you delete parent and child terms in a single step.

3. Add a glossary term to an Entity

Add an existing term to any entity within DataHub, anything from Datasets to Dashboards; from Pipelines & Tasks to ML Models and Feature Tables.
